Saints Row

Writer; Narrative Designer
Developer: Volition Games
Release Date: August 23rd, 2022

Much of my work on Saints Row can be seen in its open world gameplay. The challenges that came with this project came largely from its scope. Saints Row’s open world is the largest the series has seen, and with that came dozens of open world side missions, conversations and barks amongst dozens of NPC types, naming and adding descriptions for one of the most expansive customization systems in the industry, and critical path missions, all of which you are places you can see my narrative design and writing.

The mission above is one of many in a line of open world missions called Laundromat where the player is tasked with cleaning up crime scenes to cover up the crime that was committed. It was the first set of missions I was given to work on at Volition, and with that came challenges. I needed to learn new tools to implement lip-syncing with the NPCs, extensively play and learn the pacing of what these 6 missions needed to be, and write dialogue for characters that would be voiced for the first time in my career, with a fairly quick turnaround time. The experience taught me how to pace myself and adapt to the needs of the project when learning new tools, and I was happy with the work that resulted.
